Getting ready for the American Dexter Cattle Association Annual Meeting

I will be at the annual meeting, show and sale for the American Dexter Cattle Association next week. It will be held at the Allen County Fairgrounds near Fort Wayne Indiana. Here is a link for show and sale information. I will be bringing about 120 pounds of farmstead cheese for sale (made with milk from the Craighill herd)--- if I don't eat it all myself during the drive.

If any readers are near Fort Wayne, it will be a great chance to find out more about Dexter Cattle by seeing lots of them and talking to breeders from across the US.

Hope to see your there!

  1. I would love to be there, but it's a bit far for me. I hope that you'll be able to post some pictures when you get back! The cheese sales are a great idea to promote Dexters and their milk, and hopefully go a long way to cover your travel expenses! That's my frugal side speaking :-).

  2. I do plan to take plenty of photos there. If possible, I may post from there. Fort Wayne is only about 5 hours for me and the annual show and sale may not be this close again for a long time.

Have you met the Dexter Breeder near your place yet?

  3. I received an email from the Dexter breeder, but it was disappointing. Sadly, the man had a car accident a couple of years ago and he suffered a lot of pain when tending the herd. He had to make the heartbreaking decision to sell them--all 23 head. He now buys and raises a yearling steer every year for the freezer, but that's the extent of it.

There are a couple of other Dexter breeders about 3 hours from the new place, so we may have to travel a bit to get them. I'll still be looking for something closer, in the meantime.

It's good that you can get away, because it's not always easy to find someone to care for the animals. I look forward to hearing about your trip.
